Frequently Asked Questions

Get answers to common questions about Microdermabrasion.

Microdermabrasion is generally comfortable; clients feel light abrasion and mild suction. Sessions take about 30–45 minutes. Redness or sensitivity may appear briefly, but most return to normal activities immediately. Your therapist will adjust intensity to your skin’s tolerance and goals.

Most clients see noticeable improvement after 3–6 treatments spaced two to four weeks apart. Maintenance sessions every 1–3 months help sustain results depending on skin concerns and lifestyle. Your esthetician will customize a plan for your skin type.

Microdermabrasion improves texture and superficial discoloration, making shallow acne scars and light hyperpigmentation less noticeable. Deeper scarring may need combined treatments. Multiple sessions yield cumulative improvement; consult your technician for a tailored approach and realistic expectations.

Sensitive or rosacea-prone skin requires a gentler approach; low-intensity settings and shorter passes minimize irritation. A consultation and patch test are recommended. Your specialist may suggest alternative treatments or pre/post-care to protect skin and reduce inflammation.

Downtime is minimal—most clients experience light redness or sensitivity for a few hours to a day. Avoid heavy sun, exfoliants, and intense heat for 48–72 hours. Makeup can usually be applied the next day if skin feels comfortable and healed.

Avoid retinoids and strong acids for five to seven days before treatment. Afterward, use gentle cleansers, hydrating serums, broad-spectrum SPF daily, and avoid sun exposure and exfoliants for several days. Follow your esthetician’s personalized aftercare for best, longer-lasting results.
